We love real food and are passionate about serving tasty dishes that will delight our guests. After all, fantastic food (and lots of wine) is key to a great chalet holiday! Our food philosophy is very much about cooking with a conscience. The majority of meals are made from scratch and use good quality, ethically sourced ingredients where possible, including: organic or local red meat; free range chicken and eggs; local cheeses; and bottled wines from small regional producers. We offer discounts for vegetarians and vegans, and can cater for gluten-free and other special diets. See below for more details and menu examples.

Tasty breakfasts

Our self-service breakfast buffet is served until 9.30am and usually includes a choice of tea, coffee or herbal tea; fresh fruit, bread, jams and fruit juice; a selection of cereals; and a daily changing special. One day it might be home-made banana bread or fruit smoothies, another it could be french toast with maple syrup; fried eggs or Scotch pancakes with bilberries and crème fraiche.

Home baked goodies & picnics

For those with a sweet tooth, we’ll have a home-made sweet treat waiting for you when you come back in the afternoon. Sit down to a lovely slice of cake or mouthwatering biscuits in front of the sitting room fire. To wash it down, help yourself to tea, herbal teas or coffee from the tea trolley in the sitting area.

We can also provide picnic lunch bags for an extra charge, just let your hosts know at least the night before.

Delicious dinners

Delicious three course dinners, heavily influenced by modern European and farmhouse-style cuisine, are served in our convivial dining areas with everyone sitting together around a large table. When possible, we use organic and/or locally reared red meat, free range chicken and eggs, and support artisan producers where we can. The menus vary depending on the season and the cook’s fancy, but to get a flavour, you can see some of the dishes we’ve served below.

Evening meals are served with good quality bottled house wines from traditional producers in the Rhone valley (you have a choice of red, white or rose and it’s unlimited with dinner). We also stock a small selection of unusual local and regional wines if you want to try something different. Following dinner, coffee, tea or herbal infusions are served in front of the fire in the sitting room.

If you have special dietary requirements, don’t worry, we’ll do our best to help. For sole occupancy group bookings, we can usually adapt our set menus to suit your group’s tastes and discuss your preferences with you before you come.

If there are children in your party (usually only sole occupancy groups – see our child policy), we serve a simple two course early supper served at 6.00pm, leaving the adults free to enjoy the evening meal together later.

Cooking with a conscience – our food philosophy

We don’t care much about fancy smears and swirls of sauce, but we do care massively about the taste, quality and sources of the food we use, and we strongly believe in supporting high animal welfare standards.

For this reason we give discounts to vegetarians; we don’t serve foie gras or veal (unless it’s rose veal, from calves reared with their mothers); our pork and charcuterie is usually organic or from outdoor reared pigs; and we avoid duck (often a by-product of the cruel foie gras industry). We are also regular donors to Compassion in World Farming (CIWF), a charity fighting to improve conditions for farm animals worldwide.
